My First Blogging University: Setting Goals

I just joined my first ‘Blogging University’.  I am very excited!!!

The task for today is to clearly articulate at least three concrete goals for my blogging.  Once I got going, I just kept going!  This was a great exercise which helped me to focus on what I really want to accomplish in the short term.

One of the prompt questions was ‘Why do you blog’?

I blog to inspire others.

I hope that my posts inspire others to travel, to try new things, to do something that they want to do but are afraid to do. To follow their dreams.

I blog to capture and learn from my own experiences.

I want to capture my experiences and to reflect upon them. Each time I blog, I not only want to describe the experience, I also want to capture my feelings, reactions, and thoughts. I want to be able to learn from new experiences, and to apply what I have learned on the next adventure.

I blog to make new connections with fellow writers.

I want to connect with other people who are also blogging. I want to learn about other people’s experiences, and to make new connections with people who also like to write.

I blog to improve my writing.

Practice makes perfect. Also, by connecting with other bloggers, I can learn from their writing.

Here are my specific goals for my blogging:

1. Post two significant blogs within the next month. These will be more in depth posts capturing an experience with reflection, and pictures.

Due Date: August 18, 2016

2. Participate in the Community Blog at least once per week over the next month. Each time I participate, read at least three posts from other bloggers and provide constructive feedback.

3. Triple the amount of followers that I have within the next month. Currently, I have 9 followers.

Due Date: August 18, 2016

4. Finalize my brand. Determine whether I will stay with ‘Just a Girl and a Bike’, or if I will change this. If I decide to change this, then I need to come up with a new title.

Due Date: August 1, 2016

5. Improve my blog site. Work on the layout and content, and improve the spacing, readability and accessibility of the content. This may require me to learn more about the features available and how to use them.

Due Date: August 15, 2016.

  1. Great goals! I signed up for the course myself and, while I’ve been blogging since February and co-run a community blog site (bloggersmeetup.com if you’re interested) I still don’t know what my own blog goals are. I searched the tag to find people just like you to maybe help me garner my own thoughts into focus. Your post helps, so thank you! Let’s do this, eh? ☺️

    1. Hello Amanda,

Thank you so much for reading some of my posts. I really hope you enjoyed them! I am really glad that my post about blogging goals was of some help to you. That is wonderful to hear. I am finding the blogging university really great.

I will definitely check out your group site – sounds great!! I really want to meet more fellow bloggers / writers 🙂

As for your blogging, tell me, what are you most passionate about? Whatever it is, you may want to try writing about that. And, I saw this somewhere…’write like no one is reading it!’.

      Julie 🙂

    1. I think #5 could go on forever 🙂 I took a stab at redesign and am now looking for feedback. I will go with it for a while, and just keep evolving a bit at a time.

As for #4 – well, I think I might just stick to what I have. I don’t want to over think it.

Thanks for comment!!! Love the shot glass part 🙂

      1. Yes, I looked at the WP university and thought the same – although it is a great way to improve!

My site doesn’t have a quarter of how much travel I’ve done since 1985, which is when I donned my first backpack and solo-travelled around the world for 12 months. This cemented my addiction. I have countless hardback journals that one day I’ll turn electronically – if I ever catch up with my current travelling posts 😉

Thank you for the excellent feedback you provided. I really appreciate your thoughts as sometimes, it’s hard to know whether you’re writing style is effective.

  3. I LOVE this!!! I have a bunch of little hard cover journals too. Not matter how light I had to pack for cycling trips, I always brought one. Maybe you should write book….I did, and am working on editing now. It all came from my journals.

It was my pleasure providing feedback 🙂

  4. I just searched for #bloggingbranding and found your post. I’m amazed at your goals, you obviously gave them a lot of thought. I hope to give mine a similar amount! Why do you blog? That is a great question to start thinking about the direction of your blog
