About Me

Gavia 1BLOG – When I get to travel, I often get to ride my bike. My bike takes me to many places that can only be experienced fully one pedal stroke at time.  Blood, sweat and tears always leads to self reflection, growth, and hopefully some celebration!  I blog to take you on the journey with me.

BOOK

My bike absolutely changed my life!  I wrote a book about my personal journey from struggling with weight and anxiety and having no belief in my physical being, to finding my inner athlete and discovering what I am truly capable of.  It all started with a bike, and a very famous French mountain known as Alpe d’Huez.  All proceeds from book sales will go to World Bicycle Relief – an organization changing lives by facilitating access to eduction, healthcare and basic necessities through bicycles!

INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKING

You absolutely CAN do whatever it is that you are afraid to do, or don’t believe you can do.  My talks aspire to inspire you as I tell my own honest and real story, to facilitate your own vision as you define your own mountain, and empower you with clear actions and powerful mental tools.  Walk away feeling ready to take the next step.  One pedal stroke at a time I made it to the top of a mountain that I was completely unprepared for.  One step at a time you too can take on big dreams and desires.

Who am I?  A little more about me…

I am just a girl with a bike.  My bike changed my life.  Before I met my bike, I never would have dreamed that I would one day be cycling up famous mountains of the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia.  I had no belief in my athletic being, and was afraid of adventure.

My bike introduced me to my inner athlete, and showed me that I am strong and capable.  My bike opened up new worlds to me.  My bike introduced me to new friendships that would have gone undiscovered if I had been travelling any other way.

When I am cycling, I have the most fun I have had in my life. It makes me feel strong. It makes me feel free. It humbles me. For me, it is the most satisfying and rewarding experience I’ve ever had and I can’t imagine a life without it.

I love climbing a mountain one pedal stroke at a time.  I love the feeling when my physical, mental and spiritual beings meld into one and work together in a flow that will get me to the top.  I love the feeling of reaching a peak.  I love the celebration and rewards.

I loved cycling as a kid. My colony had these two major slopes where I could just stop pedalling and fly! Loved that feeling!

  2. It’s not often when one would find a person who wishes to inspire others into taking action and living their lives to the fullest. Most are too focused on themselves so I truly love the fact that you are one of those people who wishes the best for others as well!

Are you from The Netherlands bud?

    Your pal,

    1. Hello!!! Thank you so much for your comment 🙂 Before I got my bike, I was not athletic AT ALL, and totally afraid of adventure. If I can do it, anyone can. I think that whatever you want to do , you should try it!!! I am finishing up the book ‘Just a Girl and a Bike’ which describes how I got into this and over my fears…even though I am still a little afraid every time I go on a big ride.

Thank so much for reading 🙂

    1. Hi Jeff 🙂 That road is the famous Stelvio in the Italian Dolomites. 48 switchbacks. I have written about it in my book which is coming out soon. I highly recommend visiting Bormio which is surrounded by several mountains – Stelvio, Gavia, Mortirolo 🙂
