The holidays are over. Did you eat more than you intended go? Did that nightly rum and egg nog by the fire, that extra chocolate or two, and those ever so delicious ginger snaps that your aunt sent you home with…all catch up with you?
It’s ok. You can either dwell on what you can’t change, or, you can release it and move forward. Life is life. And sometimes you simply need to enjoy yourself a little. The simple things in life are the best.
Thus, let’s move forward together. And let’s keep it simple!!
New Year’s is a time when people feel the need to make profound promises. I am not saying that you shouldn’t set goals and aspire to continually improve yourself. But keeping things simple will set you up for success.
Let’s just start by committing to eating well balanced meals, and getting an hour of activity each day. Yes, that’s it. Just take a little time each day to take care of yourself. Step one for me is to slide in that 2 cups of dark leafy green and get outside and burn off some of the rum and egg nog.
I started the year with a wonderful snow shoe in a local golf course. It was fantastic! Pushing up the hills adds in some interval style cardio and builds those leg muscles. Taking a deep breath on the flatter sections and looking around at the mountains, the trees and the sparkly blanket of snow fills the soul with feeling of peace and joy.
Don’t beat yourself up. Just put on those boots and go for walk. Grab your runners and go for a run. Take your dog out for some play time in the park. Whatever it is that sounds fun right now – just do it! Just start. You don’t have to have all day to go to the mountains, just go to the park in your neighbourhood. Walk, run, ski, snow shoe…whatever!! Just get up and GO!!!
